Principal Update

Thank you, students and parents who were able to join us last night for CCE’s Science Night.  We had a great turn out!  We hope our parents were as impressed as we were by all the students’ hard work towards the class projects and the individual projects.  The Mad Science presentation was awesome.  The kids’ faces showed they enjoyed it, as well.

This year, 19 third, fourth and fifth grade students and 11 kindergarten, first and second grade students chose to submit an individual project in the Science Fair.  Nine students were selected to move on with their project to the Austin Energy Regional Science Fair in February.  Congratulations to these 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students!

On Friday, January 16th our fifth grade students enjoyed a very informative presentation on the topic of renewable energy and the importance of saving resources.  This topic connected to their current unit of study in Science.  Karla Lovelady works for Res America’s and volunteered her time to be with our students.  She discussed various jobs in the industry and the role they play.  The students learned how wind farms are built and they learned that one turbine produces enough energy to power 650 homes!  The students were intrigued by the information learned and had great questions to ask.  Thank you, Karla for a great presentation!

It is important to us that our students attend school every day possible.  We appreciate your partnership in ensuring students are here.  Our Average Daily Attendance Rate for the fourth six weeks of school is 96%.  Let’s continue to celebrate high attendance with our Comets!

Our first annual Geography Bee has been rescheduled for Friday, January 30th at 5:45 p.m. in the cafeteria.  We are excited for our 20 fourth and fifth grade participants to show off their geographical knowledge.

Our CCE PTA sponsored Family Fun Fest is scheduled for Saturday, February 28th, 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.  More information will come home with your child in the near future.  We hope to see you there!

Planning for the Multicultural Fair is in full swing as the event is only two and a half months away!  To get involved, please sign up on the SignUpGenius link below.  As brochures will need to be printed and performances rehearsed, additional signups will not be accepted after Friday, January 30th.  If you wish to organize a booth, organize a performance, or have your child perform in an already organized performance, please do not delay in getting onto SignUpGenius!  For more info, please contact:  Ann Okamura at

CCE PTA Green Team Clean Up Day has been scheduled for Sunday, February 1st at 2:00 p.m.  PTA is asking you to bring your green thumb and pitch in as they work on trimming back plants, weeding the flower beds and helping beautify the school!  Please bring any gardening tools that you would like to use, and don’t forget your gloves!  Students are welcome as this is a great opportunity for older students to get in a few community services hours.  Refreshments will be provided!

Registration is now open for our annual Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day (Girl Day) event. The Women in Engineering Program (WEP) at The University of Texas at Austin invites you to promote math, science and engineering to girls through this great open house. Our upcoming Girl Day event will be bigger and better than ever and we hope you decide to join us.

Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day (Girl Day) is an international event celebrated during Engineers Week each year for 1st through 8th grade students. Families and educators are encouraged to join their students at The University of Texas at Austin for an afternoon of engineering fun. Girl Day gives 1st through 8th grade students a chance to:

    * have fun doing grade-specific, hands-on engineering activities,
    * meet students, professors and engineers from the industry, and
    * see what it's like to be an engineer

WEP’s Girl Day was featured throughout this inspirational video produced by the National Engineers Week Foundation and funded by ExxonMobil.

The Girl Scouts of Central Texas will have Girl Day patches for sale at the event. All Girl Day participants will receive a Girl Day giveaway as well as an activity passport to record the day's events. Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day is offered free of charge, but registration is required. Individual and group registration is available online at:
