CELEBRATIONS
WESTWOOD WINS THE SOCK AND UNDERWEAR DRIVE
[Message from Principal Arterbury]
Thanks to the entire Westwood community, including all our elementary and middle schools, who contributed to this great cause. Congratulations WESTWOOD for winning the 6th annual Sock/Underwear Drive!  Between the two high schools and all of the feeder schools, a record setting total of 8,396 pairs socks and underwear were collected benefiting the Round Rock Clothes Closet!  Westwood's community contributed 5,021!
But we all agree, the true winner here is the Round Rock Clothes Closet!  A big thank you to all who participated in such a worthy cause!  We’ll do it again next year!  Here is McNeil's Principal, Mrs. Acosta, wearing Westwood orange at the game last week. Go Westwood!

CAMPUS NEWS
WEAR PINK
The Canyon Creek staff would like to invite all students and parents to wear PINK on Tuesday, October 20th in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.  October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which is an annual campaign to increase awareness of the disease. While most people are aware of breast cancer, many forget to take the steps to have a plan to detect the disease in its early stages and encourage others to do the same. Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women in the United States (other than skin cancer). We have made a lot of progress but still have a long way to go.  On October 20th (Tuesday) show your support for all the Women and Men, who are or have once battled breast cancer by wearing your PINK.

ORANGE OUT FOR UNITY DAY
Together Against Bullying - united for kindness, acceptance and inclusion.
October is National Bullying Prevention Month.  On Wednesday, October 21st CCE will wear ORANGE for Unity Day.  Unity Day is the day everyone can come together--in schools, communities, and online--and send one large ORANGE message of support, hope, and unity to show that we are united against bullying and united for kindness, acceptance and inclusion.

CCE NIGHT AT THE TEXAS STARS HOCKEY GAME
Ticket order forms for the November 14th Texas Stars hockey game were sent home in Tuesday Folders this week.  Our very own Singing Stars Choir will be singing the National Anthem and all Canyon Creek families may order tickets at a discounted rate!  Come out and support our  Singing Stars Choir and enjoy a fun night of hockey at the Cedar Park Center.  Deadline for ordering tickets is November 6th.  Questions?  Contact Debbie Martin (Music teacher) @ 512-428-2831 or by e-mail @ Debbie_Martin@roundrockisd.org.

CHERISHED ART FUNDRAISER
Cherished Art Fundraiser will be coming home in students’ October 20th Tuesday folder.  The CCE Art and Music Departments will be offering unique products through Cherished Art again this year!  Your student's artwork can be reproduced on t-shirts, aprons, coffee mugs, key chains, note cards ... you name it, we can do it!  Check out the display in the front hallway to see some of the available items. Proceeds from this sale directly benefit the Canyon Creek Art and Music departments and will be used to supplement our RRISD budget.  Products will be delivered in plenty of time for holiday giving!  Participation in this fundraiser is optional, but we do ask that you return your student's artwork to us regardless of your participation.   You may also submit siblings' artwork, and even your own!  Questions?  Contact either Debbie Martin (Music) or Sharon Preston (Art).  Deadline for orders is Friday, October 30th so that we can be sure to have your items for the holidays!

DENIM DRIVE
Thank you to those who have already donated to our fourth grade sponsored Denim Drive!  Please recycle gently used or new denim jeans and jackets.  Grade level collection baskets will be located in the main hallway until Friday, October 23rd.  All denim will be donated to the RRISD Clothes Closet as part of this Project Based Learning experience.  Thanks for helping us continue our tradition of generosity at CCE!

PHOTOS FROM THIS WEEK
Mrs. Cerda’s class is participating in the Stock Market Game with her fifth grade students.  The Stock Market Game  is an online simulation of the global  markets geared for grades 4-12 to introduce them to  economics, investing and personal finance, and prepares them for financially independent futures.   Mr. Patterson was a guest speaker and talked to the students about stock, bonds and mutual funds.  This enabled them to enter their first trade in the game.

Third graders had Robolab with Mrs. Wada this week.  They learned about kinetic and potential energy.  They also discussed energy alternatives and created a ferris wheel run by solar power. It was wonderful to have help from the WatchD.O.G.S. for this activity!

CAMPUS NEWS
STUDENT HOLIDAY ON MONDAY
Round Rock ISD will observe Monday, October 12th as a Student Holiday!  We will miss the students, but are looking forward to a fun day of learning here on campus during staff development.

DENIM DRIVE
Our fourth grade sponsored Denim Drive begins on Tuesday, October 13th.

BATTERY RECYCLING PROGRAM
GIRL SCOUT TROOP 2533 (A Brownie troop of 2nd grade girls) lead the charge in our Battery Recycling Program. Batteries of ALL types and reasonable size (NO car batteries!) are collected.  Batteries leech many dangerous products into the soil when sent to landfills!  Please ask your family, friends, and neighbors to participate in this very worthwhile endeavor.  There is a small collection box in the school office and a large collection box in the hallway next to the Clothes Closet donation bin.  Please help us REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE!

VOLUNTEER NEEDED

Are you knowledgeable about fish aquarium maintenance?  We are looking for a volunteer who will help maintain the office fish aquarium.  It would only require about one hour of your time per month.  Please contact Laura Lewis @ Laura_Lewis@roundrockisd.org if you are interested.
